On Saturday, 6 June 2026, the shooting range in Bzenec hosted a gathering of wounded war veterans and invited guests. The event was organized by the Bučovice Practical Shooting Association, whose members played an active role in planning the program, ensuring its smooth operation, and creating a welcoming environment for all participants. Led by Major Karel Böhm, MSc, of the Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies at the University of Defence, the event focused on supporting the veteran community, promoting the traditions of practical shooting, and expressing appreciation to those who have served the Czech Republic.
The day’s programme combined shooting competitions with an informal social gathering. Participants had the opportunity to take part in various shooting activities, share their experiences, and spend time in an environment that naturally reflects military values, professional camaraderie, and mutual respect. Throughout the event, particular emphasis was placed on safety, good organization, and a friendly atmosphere.
The gathering was not only a sporting event but also an important social occasion. For the wounded veterans, it provided an opportunity to reconnect with people who understand their experiences while serving as a reminder that their service and sacrifices should never be taken for granted. Personal interaction, meaningful conversations, and the time spent together gave the event its true significance.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests and representatives of organizations that have long supported national defence, security, and veteran care. Among the guests were Ambassador of the Czech Republic Aleš Opata, General Petr Svoboda, MSS, Jiří Kašpárek, Director of the Military Technical Institute (VTÚ, state enterprise), and Miroslav Žižka, Managing Director of LPP Ltd.
Such an event would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of its partners. Special thanks go to the Military Technical Institute (VTÚ, state enterprise) for providing the facilities at the Bzenec shooting range, as well as to LPP Ltd., Česká zbrojovka a.s., and DSS a.s. for their generous support. Appreciation also goes to all the organizers and volunteers whose dedication contributed to the successful preparation and delivery of the event.
The gathering in Bzenec demonstrated that caring for war veterans extends far beyond formal ceremonies and commemorative occasions. Equally important are personal connections, genuine interest, and the willingness to devote time to those whose service has contributed to the security of the Czech Republic. These values were reflected throughout the event, which was conducted with dignity, friendship, and sincere gratitude.
