On May 31, 2024, the University of Defence hosted an expert workshop entitled Indices for Tomorrow: Predictions Based on Comprehensive Data, which focused on the use of indices and indicators to support strategic decision-making and possible predictions. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Zoltán Oszkár Szántó, Director of the Future Potential Observatory (FPO) and Vice-Rector of Science of the Corvinus University of Budapest together with Mr Pál Boday, Msc. presented the Future Potential Index (FPI) which consists of 22 indicators and shows how prepared OECD countries are for the future.
Within the second part of the workshop, the Program Director of the BSc in Business and Management, Dr. habil. Judit Nagy from Corvinus University presented the results of her research on data analysis and identifying trends in distribution chains. Afterwards, the Vice-Recor, Col. (GS) Pavel Foltin presented a first draft of a possible Security Index. Participating experts from the Defence Analyses Department of the Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies of the Defence University and Masaryk University discussed its possible future development and common cooperation in the future indexes and composite indicators.
The use of indices and composite indicators is an important tool for analysing large amounts of data and capturing changes in macro trends. The potential for their use is extensive and, using advanced tools of big data analysis, data mining and backward learning, it creates the conditions for making appropriate strategic decisions.
