On 16 December 2025, as part of the instruction of the General Staff Course of the Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies (CSMSS), a lecture was delivered by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic – Chief of Staff (ZNGŠ OS SR – NŠ), Brigadier General Ing. Marek Banas, on the topic The Defence System of the Slovak Republic.

Brigadier General Ing. Marek Banas is a senior representative of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic (OS SR) and currently serves in top-level positions within the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic. During his long military career, he has held a number of command and staff appointments, primarily in logistics, military transport, and operational support, both at the national level and in the international arena. He is a graduate of domestic and foreign military educational institutions, including prestigious NATO courses. In addition to his professional focus on strategic planning and the management of military structures, he is also engaged in developing international cooperation in defence.

In his presentation, he outlined the context from which the structure of the defence system of the Slovak Republic naturally derives—from the geopolitical environment of the state’s location, including opportunities and constraints resulting from geographic and political conditions, to the membership of the Slovak Republic in the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). He presented the defence system of the Slovak Republic and its legal framework, and addressed practical implications, focusing on emerging challenges and areas requiring adjustment. The presentation by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic – Chief of Staff (ZNGŠ OS SR – NŠ) concluded with a discussion with participants of the General Staff Course (KGŠ).
