On Sunday, March 17, as part of the Bíteš Academy, an expert lecture on the topic of Israel and Palestine – peace out of reach? took place. Dr. Yvona Novotná from the Center for Security and Military Strategic Studies at the University of Defence in Brno first acquainted the audience with the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which date back far into the past, gaining intensity especially in the first half of the 20th century even before the establishment of the State of Israel and which continues to this day. The lecturer further highlighted the complex issues of Israeli-Palestinian relations, the Palestinian question, clarified controversial points of peace dialogue including the long-term development of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Peace negotiations have stagnated in recent years, and thus the restoration of peace and stability in the region is out of reach. According to the international community, the creation of two independent states is still considered a fair solution, which could contribute to a peaceful settlement in the entire Middle East region.
