Dear Readers,

A new issue of Defence & Strategy has just been published. This peer-reviewed journal is published by the University of Defence and is indexed in WoS, Scopus and other databases. Issue 2/2023 opens with an article by David Jirasek titled „Response of Kenya Security Forces to Terrorist Attacks in the Post-Westgate Period„, which examines Kenya’s response to Al-Shabaab terrorist attacks in 2013, 2015, and 2019, looking at specific experiences and the gradual evolution of legislative, technical, and security measures against terrorism, one of the most significant global threats. The following is an interesting text by Jan Feryna and Libor Kutej entitled „Implications for China from the War in Ukraine: Comparison of the Western and Taiwanese Views„, which examines how Europe, the US and especially the People’s Republic of China have learned from the conflict in Ukraine and how they can use the lessons learned to advance their security interests. The article by Junsu Seo also takes you to the Southeast Asian region; his study „When Coups Occur: Erosion of Democracy in Thailand and Myanmar“ focuses on the early indication and the course of military coups in these countries. An investigative analysis of the strategies of the warring parties by Andrii Bahinskyi and Olha Zaiets returns to the topic of the current conflict in Ukraine in their article „Strategies of the Sides in the Russia-Ukraine War„, which provides a more detailed comparison of the strategic approaches as well as the specific activities and capabilities of the two adversaries. The issue concludes with an inspiring look at dynamically evolving disruptive technologies and their potential use in the armed forces, presented by Nitin Agarwal in the article „Robots and Artificial Intelligence in the Military„.

In conclusion, on behalf of the entire editorial team, thank you for your continuous readership and support; I wish you a delightful holiday season and extend best wishes for health, fortune, and contentment in the new year 2024.
