On Thursday, 29 January 2026, the University of Defence hosted the Consul of the Republic of Korea, J. E. Kim Jin Heung, from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Prague.

As part of the Regional Studies course, the Consul delivered an expert lecture to participants of the 44th General Staff Course. The course focuses on strategic and security developments in selected regions of interest, as well as on the policies and activities of key state actors in relation to the security and national interests of the Czech Republic.

In his highly informative and engaging presentation, the Consul addressed the current security policy of the Republic of Korea, outlining its key objectives and priorities. He also discussed the Korean defence industry and the country’s defence posture across all operational domains. In addition, he provided an overview of the current security situation in the Northeast Asian region.

The lecture also covered important milestones in modern Korean history, including the Korean War of 1950–1953, the consequences of which continue to shape the security environment today. Particular attention was devoted to relations with North Korea, including its nuclear programme and the demarcation line on the Korean Peninsula.

The lecture offered participants valuable insights and a deeper understanding of security dynamics in Northeast Asia.
