Senior Officers Course

Programme specification

The lifelong learning programme (hereinafter also referred to as the „course“ or „programme“) is intended for officers of the rank of captain, who have the prerequisites for the performance of command and staff functions at senior officer positions (education code 06 according to the code of qualification requirements). The course is common to all specializations. The client of the programme is the Czech Republic – Ministry of Defence (State Secretary Section).

The programme prepares an officer for performance of:

  • command functions at the level of battalion, section, squadron,
  • management functions at the level of department head at the levels of brigade, regiment, wing, force component, agency, General Staff,
  • staff functions at the level of force components, agency, General Staff,
  • staff positions in national representations and the international staffs of NATO/EU/OSCE/UN.

 

Objective of the study programme

To prepare an officer – a manager at the middle management level – by developing his creative thinking, analytical abilities, and skills, including the ability to make decisions and orient himself in the current socio-political, military-economic, and military events in the national and international environment.

Course participants will supplement their knowledge and expand their skills in management theory, preparation, and ensuring the security and state defence, and develop their ability to conceptually design, implement and manage sub-processes of the construction and development of the state defence.

Development of competencies necessary for successful command of units, management of staff and staff elements, and the ability to conceptually design, implement, and manage staff processes and sub-processes of the construction of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic development are emphasized.

Entry conditions

Officers with a completed university education in a master’s study programme in the captain rank with knowledge of the English language on at least STANAG 2222 level, who are authorized to familiarize themselves with at least „RESTRICTED“ classified information, can be sent to the course. Officers must be graduates of the junior officer course or its foreign equivalent.

Members of the other countries´ armed forces can also participate in the course, based on the conditions and prerequisites defined by contracts between the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Defence of the given state.
